Project Nest

Professor: Ted Shelton Spring 2025 Group: Jermaine Parker

This studio was intended to advocate for wider use of single stair housing since new legislation had passed for it in Tennessee. Our site was owned by a church so we wanted our building to enrich their community. It was in a fairly busy area surrounded by several neighborhoods. Project Nest was to serve single-parent families by providing a safe place for the children to grow up. One unit on the ground floor served as a community gathering space and the pastor’s apartment. Every floor had a large communal balcony that would allow parents to keep an eye on their kids playing outside while still being inside. Jane Jacob’s “Eyes on the Street” was a driving idea behind this project.
