Garden Interchange
Professor: Tricia Stuth Fall 2025
Garden Interchange is an exploration of how to occupy the excessive amounts of land given over to right of ways.
Despite being adjacent to a rather walkable neighborhood, the streets around the I-40/James White interchange are noticeably not pedestrian friendly. There are two main factors for this: a lack of destinations along the path, and grossly oversized roads. Garden Interchange solves both of those. The variety of gardens and buildings along E Fifth Ave, Hall of Fame Dr, and E Magnolia Ave both beautify the area and give people a reason to be there. Reallocated lanes and redesigned pedestrian crossings make it safer to be a pedestrian.
Garden Interchange helps shifts the focus of the streets towards pedestrians and connect the city rather than divide it.
